Neighborhood: DowntownAwesome venue with a friendly knowledgeable staff...fun experience even if it was to watch the Sparks!
I like this place but then again I'm biased ;) And the best part of this venue is variety. You get to choose which parking lot and which concessions stand you want to reluctantly donate your hard earned cash to. They're still pricey but hey at least you get to pick then kick yourself in the butt and say, "Aw dammit. I should have gone with that one." Try parking at the Honda Center and only choosing between 3 parking lots which are still packed like a mother and still pay a gripload. The acoustics here is a hit or miss. During the Alicia Keys concert, it sounded horrible. And I know Ms. Keys can certainly hold her own in this arena. But when Linkin Park performed, they sounded great. But alas, I am biased once again since I'm married to Mike Shinoda...yea...Anyways, premier Level seating and Suites are always more convenient since you have the level's own bar, restrooms, and smoking patio. The 300 levels can of course be a pain during concerts but personally not a bad option during hockey games. You get the die hard hecklers, season ticket holders, and fans up there that totally gets everyone awake and jumping from their seats. Oh, and the garlic fries is a MUST, yum! However, they are a skimpy when it comes to mixed drinks. We ordered a margarita and as they splashed (and that's being generous) some tequila into the mixer, my BF asked if they can add more. The cashier replied in all seriousness, "Sorry that's how I'm supposed to make it. Welcome to the Staples Center." LOL, yes indeed.

Every once in a blue moon when they aren't entertaining business partners, the executive team of the company I work for are nice enough to kick the corporate tickets down to measly little peons like me. True, even on the rare occasions that they do, the Lakers are probably playing the Grizzlies or the Bobcats, but being a serious hoops junkie I'm always grateful to eat The Man's table scraps and happy to catch a game regardless of the opposing team.
The company seats are on the first level, row 16 I believe, which is basically right there on top of the action as well as on top of Andy Garcia's burgeoning bald spot. The crowd is a mix of hoops diehards, affluent businessmen, various B-Z list celebs who aren't big enough to be courtside, and a plethora of smokin' hot grou...er I mean nice young ladies who happen to enjoy famous cock and Chanel. Between the execs, celebs, and the players themselves, there's a rather large gene pool and net worth to select from. Sadly I cannot count myself amongst that group, as through their years of job experience and training gold diggers can smell broke ass a mile away and have x-ray credit score vision which results in me getting only unwelcoming looks and 0 play.
The arena itself is a great place to watch a game. The seats don't make your ass cheeks fall asleep, the floors are clean, the sound system crisp, and the concessions are better than your average sports venue fare. The luxury suites aren't really my style but they were fine as well on the couple occasions I've been in one. As far as concerts, I caught Kanye West's Glow in the Dark tour when it came back through town in June. It was an incredible show and undoubtedly the best live music experience I've witnessed to date, solidifying Staples as a great multipurpose venue.
Matter fact I have no complaints, well actually just one: -1 star though for housing all those car flag flying bandwagon Lakers fans.

Ive been to Staples Center a bucket load of times since I moved to LA from Sac. Be it Clippers (vs Kings or Warriors), Lakers (vs Kings or Warriors), LA Kings, concerts, whatever.. its always a pretty solid venue.
Odds and Ends: Parking is relatively cheap and close compared to many 'downtown' arenas. $6-7 can get you an all day spot in a gated parking lot a block away. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the area to enjoy. The seats are comfy and larger than some at other arenas, and the sightlines are probably the best ive seen. There really isnt a bad seat in the house. Food and drinks are reasonably priced (it feels like you are getting stabbed with a rusty knife, but they are nice enough to keep the twisting to a minimum).
Ive been lucky enough to enjoy the box seats as well, and I have to say the catering, service, and facilities are seriously top notch. Its an entirely different WORLD (different entrance, different carpeting, art on the wall, willdddd). Oh, and heres a tip for any of you who hang in these seats alot: TIP YOUR DAMN SERVER. They are probably cute (female or male), they are serving you, and they control your beer supply. We chatted our cutie up during the game and tipped her when we left, and she told us that we were the nicest guys to come through that box ever. And we didnt even tip that well!
My pregame ritual: Park in the parking lot, walk the block to the grocery store and pick up a 12 pack of cheap beer, then walk to PIzza Next Door and grab 2 huge slices, then back to the parking lot for a little loud punkrock and pregame revelry. LA doesnt seem to enjoy tailgating... at all.. so you and your pals will be the only ones there rocking out, and people parking will probably give you funny looks as they park their C-Class Mercedes and adjust their polo shirts. Fuck em, they dont know what they are missing out on!
And thats EXACTLY the problem with the Staples Center... there doesnt seem to be any soul in the entire place. It feels like a huge overgrown stripmall. No life or character. That and you are more likely to hear someone walking by you talking about their 401k than the game.

I suppose you have no choice if Van Halen or Madonna decide to play here, so you're sort of forced to endure the fruitless and painful search fpr affordable parking, reasonable food prices, beer that clocks in over 2% alcohol or teenagers selling quality weed.
Luckily, there is an abundance of weed in California, so that part worked out before it was confiscated by security. How am I expected to enjoy a Rush concert without medicinal marijuana? Lots of beer.

I've been to several shows here. I think it's a nice spot with fairly good acoustics. I don't have the dough to ever sit down on the floor or anything... except that one time I scalped tickets half way into a show. But I'd definitely come here again. I'm sure the Staples Center needs and wants MY business since I'm such a big timer. They only have like a few million patrons that roll through there a year.

This place is cool, especially when the Lakers are losing. People, we need to discard the Laker flags you got on your cars. I mean, really.
There use to be an Ice Hockey team that played there, The Kings. They were good many years ago, and now, I think they play in the parking lot. How sad.
Clippers, Sparks, Arena Football...huh?
Oh, and try the calamari if you're able to get into that exclusive area, best in LA I reckon.

This place ROCKS, especially compared to the crappy ass TD Banknorth Garden in Boston with all them fairweather Celtics fans and loser New England Patriots in attendance.
I definitely recommend the Nachos Camachos with tri-tip and the "Beat Boston" T-Shirts.. Also, if you see Jack Nicholson hi-five him, and if you see Matt Damon kick him in the nuts! A trip to LA wouldn't be the same without those two great experiences!!!

Staples Center is a great venue to catch a game. Pretty much any seat in the house is great seat.
I've been lucky enough to watch court side and it's unbelievable how fast the game really is.
Oh yeah, I should let you know, I've only been here for a couple of concerts and WNBA games, but nonetheless, it's always a great time!

How exciting was this game?! This was my very first NBA game outing EVER. I'm not a Lakers fan, (more of a Pistons fan) but wow, the Lakers fans were so crazy and awesome. I'm walking down the hall juggling my beers while giving high-fives to every Lakers fan.
"MVP! WHOO. LAKERS! WHOO." Gosh, I felt like such a band-wagoner, but hey... it felt damn good being there :)

Game 1 Lakers v. Spurs. The place was packed. Jack, Kobe, me and a lot of yellow-flag-waving Lakers fans.
The Staples Center is clean, has lots of food choices, good views. Basically it's exactly what a big arena should be. Parking was easy in an outdoor lot about two blocks away.
Wheelchair access: As good as any access anywhere. Seats are at the top of the lower section. If the people in the row in front of you stand they don't block your view. Good bathrooms.

The place that wide eyed watchers from sports to music watch their heroes come to show and share with the crowd their highs and success in victory and every so often those terrible lows at the hands of defeat.
Lakers, Kings, Clippers. What do they have in common other than they have rather lack luster seasons more often than not? They all share the same home.
There's no better venue to come see a game of Basket Ball, Hockey, Arena Football or watch a concert of your favorite band. The location used to be a sort of island in the middle of a dead by night area. In the coming years with a Yard House coming next door and the already finished and much enjoyed Nokia theatre there is plenty to do here as of now but will only be expanding further.
There really is no seat too far in this house. Even the nose bleeds are rather close to the action. Sometimes that can be a blessing. Say for example when your team is up by 20 in the first half. Other times it can be a curse. Say when your team loses that 20 point lead and gets over taken by the away team.
Kings action is amazing at staples. You'll be seeing teeth flying left and right and you're really going to have a good time even if your team is going to lose and the coach will more than likely get sacked. How they're able to get an ice rink one day and a basketball court another is amazing. This place is a jack of all trades and it does it remarkably well.
Ticket prices. Well, you really have to take it somewhere and it's your wallet that will be hit hard when it comes to Staples center. Tickets for all events are typically on the higher end. It's something you have to deal with... You know, the cost of admission and all. Beer and food can be costly as well. At the very least with a Yard House coming soon, you'll be able to get your drink on before any event and simply cross the street to get your game on.
When it comes to parking you really can't go wrong. There's many lots to park in because it's next door to the convention center and the future home of L.A. Live. So if one lot is over flowing then you can always move on to the next one. The only times you'll come against any problems is when there's events at all the venues. I can imagine with L.A. Live, parking may be a little more difficult but I'm confident that they'll be adding enough parking for the demand.
Come here for the fun, enjoy the highs.. take in the lows and be ready for some good times when it comes to Staples Center.
I'm a cookie cutter gift giver.
I don't like to think outside the box. because outside the box usually means a gift that warrants an awkward thanks and another donation to goodwill.
Gifts for boys usually fall into:
- Shoes
- GIft Certificate
- Electronics
- Sex
- Sports Tickets
Sports Tickets are fun because I can usually benefit from them too unlike some of the other categories.
I've only been to the Staples Center for a bunch of Clippers games. I love this place cuz it's clean, the parking is easy, and the employees are helpful. I also love the fact that everyone is so into it and we're all bonded for a couple hours. Awwww.
Anyway, I just realized I liked all of the above too. My birthday is in September but I gladly accept gifts for all occasions - like groundhogs day, president's day, etc.
Thx.

the first time i visited the Staples center...2001 Lakers' playoff game. they beat San Antonio by 38 points...but i don't care.
Last year...court side seats to see the Clippers..AMAZING. i could touch Kaman's hair if i wanted to...but i dunno how often he showers...so i didn't touch him...it was tempting though.
i went two weeks ago to Kings' game...which was very fun. Hockey is a lot better to watch in person.
good times here...and fans are always cool...regardless of who's playing. the food isn't bad...and if you don't mind paying $12 for a cup of beer and $8 for a hot dog...they will definitely love this place. i have never really had much of a problem with parking...so that's good.

Get your beer and wine and soda out of the fridge and relax in comfortable cushy leather seats. Cheers! Order food from the menu or walk downstairs and buy some teriyaki popcorn chicken (buffallo sucks). Watch the game while waiting for the dessert lady to knock on your door around half time. The Staples Center lacks character. It's way too sterile and feels too generic. I get no zing from going to the Staples Center.
Plus, the food is overpriced, the selection sucks, and the surrounding area is pretty dead.
Parking was pretty easy and it wasn't too hard to escape, though it did cost $20 just for parking.
I'll probably be back for the games and the shows, but only because you can only see certain things at the Staples Center.

So fitting my 200th review should be about an LA staple...(staple?!? get it?!? hahahahahahahahahahahaha....ha....ha.....) and that it would entail a fun downtown evening with a fellow Yelper so let me start from the end:
We arrived at the Staples Center, our bellies full of goodness for my first ever professional basketball game. I have been in several different venues all over the country for concerts, hockey games, arena football games, etc and the Staples Center has to rank up there as one of the best. Easy to get around, well marked for the sections, seems that every seat from floor to nosebleed has a decent view and the sound system is great.
We were lucky to get seats smack dab in the middle of it all so I could really look around while the Clippers were fighting the Hawks on the floor (sorry, wasn't that exciting of a game) - it's the first time I have seen boxes all the way around an arena but that makes sense - LA, home to the VIPs (whether you really are one or not)
The bar even makes a great "Mint Condition" which is essentially a decent mojito, but you get to keep the shaker it comes in so well worth the eleven dollar price tag. Shoot, that's standard cocktail pricing around here and you get a souvenir too! Yay. What killed me was seeing a sign at the beer stand closest to our section that read
Coors Light
Heineken
Edamame (what?)
Peanuts
Gotta love this town.

Staples Center: a five star venue for Hockey...the perfect acoustics for amplifying the roar of an enthusiastic crowd.
Staples Center: a gawdawful venue for concerts, the acoustics were horrendous, I can't imagine wanting to come back for any type of concert... the accommodation's are nice enough, but I could barely make out 20% of the things Garth was saying... and that's just sad.... maybe the Hollywood Bowl has just spoiled me...
I'll average the 5 star for Kings Hockey and 1 Star for bad acoustic to give staples center a tolerable 3...

hmmm, it's very easy to find, and parking for the games I"ve been is challenging, but if you don't mind walking a bit, u can find a free spot.
I went to a Kings and Clippers game this year, and inside is fantastic, I had great seats for both games. :)
The aisles and rows are roomey. I'ts a great venue to check out a game, and great views.
The food, there is plenty of it, and variety. I really enjoy myself when I'm there.

Unlike most people...I came here to watch a Cirque du Soleil production (Delirium) awhile back. Well...what can I say about it? The show itself was pretty good as most Cirque du Soleil shows are...but damn...this place is crowded. This may be a great place for a sporting event, but not for a concert. The acoustics aren't that great. You can't hear what the performer is singing or saying half the time, but as long as you know the songs you're able to sing along anyway.
I was here over a week ago to see Garth Brooks. I was actually there for the first concert (the one that aired on TV). It was a great concert. We were all excited to be there and see him perform, especially for helping to benefit those who lost their homes in the recent fires this past summer/fall.
I've also been here for a Lakers game. Yes, I actually saw Jack there. He was very gracious and shook hands with some of the fans. The venue was great for watching the Laker game despite that I was in the nosebleed section. You were able to watch the game from the big screens as well as the floor.
The good part about this place is that there are plenty of women's bathrooms. That totally helps when you have to go, especially after drinking all those beers. :p

*points to butt* This ass doesn't sit in anything less than Premier seats. Heh. Having now been here twice in the last month alone, I'm pretty convinced that Staples has got to be one of the finest venues for basketball. My first visit was for a Lakers vs. Spurs game where we got to sit in the Premier section and have our drinks served to us. My friend and I ordered 3 Cape Cods each, and they were some potent shit. $60 by the time the bill came, and yes, expensive, but it was something that I expected so I didn't have too much of a problem with that. The seats were cushioned and comfy but still seemed a little far. I have to admit, I was not too interested in the game. I'm a soccer fan, after all, but I couldn't pass up free tickets to catch my first Lakers game.
More recently, I went with a very large group to watch a Clippers game. Yeah, I know. Who goes to Clippers games anymore? Me, apparently. We sat way up in the nose-bleed section, but drinking some beers and chatting it up with our group made it super fun.
I've found that parking on Flower & 9th is most convenient and only $15. The cool thing is that after the game you can head over to the Hotel Figueroa just a few steps away, and into the Veranda Bar by the pool and have some more cocktails and wind down and wait for the Downtown traffic to die down before heading home.

Wooohooo! Thank you Clippers for letting the Celtics win for my boyfriends birthday!
We were very impressed with the Staples Center. Granted, I have never gone to a real NBA basketball game so it was a brand new experience for me.
We found the stadium to be very well run, lots of great friendly staff, and prices that were average for a stadium of their size, I bought our seats through ticketmaster and were happy to see that we had beverage service in our seats-- wooohoo!
"And the Clippers are a football team?"
Okay, I'll admit that I don't know jack about professional sports. I have no idea what season it is or even the main teams. It's not that I have no interest; no one in my life (dad, little bro, BF, guy friends) cares or knows about sports so I never got into it. But, this year has been different because I have received invitations to attend pro sport stuff (i.e. see review on Dodger Stadium).
Last night, I was invited to attend a work function at the A-55 suite to watch the Clippers vs. Bucks. It was as great as an experience as I could have imagined. We parked in the lot accross the street for $20. Smooth as pie getting in and out. We got our tickets and we walked everywhere in the entire center because every single freaking Staples worker told us to go the wrong way. Well, at least I got to see everything. It's very clean and pretty inside.
Suites are large and need ticket access every time you leave. Our suite had the leather couches and the leather seats to watch the game. Very nice indeed. The only weird thing was that half the partition walls are CLEAR GLASS. You can look into other people's suites and they can look into yours. I couldn't help looking into the next door neighbors, but at least I met a very nice networking guy who does commercial real estate.
Food is pretty good but the hot dogs are awful. Just as bad as the ones I had at the Dodger suite. They are weird colored.
The dessert cart is fab like The Judy H. says and the nutted caramel apple is the best!
The only surprise that I had was that the court is a lot smaller than I thought it would be. It's tiny compared to what it looks like on TV. Then again, everyone said it probably looks tiny because the players are ginormous.
And yes, when I first got invited, I thought the Clippers were some football team....

Lakers, that's why I love this venue. All the Lakers championship banners with the retired Lakers jerseys hanging on the walls, always gives me the goose bumps every time l come to watch a basketball game at Staples Center.
I wish Staples center could instead have been called "The Forum" presented by staples. In the 60's 70's, 80's and 90's the Lakers played at The Forum in Inglewood and the Celtics played at Boston Garden. corporate names on stadiums are just lame. I LOVE the Lakers.
I love Staples.
I was a little bitter about them moving from the Great Western Forum butI got over it.
Staples is one of the most luxurious sports venues I have ever been to.
My only complaint is there is very little leg room in the nosebleeds, but other than that the view is not bad for the cheapest seats (which is what I always get).
I generally park about two blocks away and pay anywhere from $7-$12.
The place is clean, easy to navigate and doesn't seem chaotic thanks to good design.
It's a bit on the expensive side. I pay between $50 and $100 for bleacher seats depending on the importance of the game.
All in all, a great place to watch a game.

I've been putting off reviewing the Staples Center because I really can't give a proper review of the full experience of being in a seat amongst the mass audience. For the past 3 years, I have been fortunate enough to enjoy sporting events in the suites. (I did enjoy a Tim McGraw/Faith Hill concert in the normal seats once. The way they had the stage set up in the middle of the audience was very smart. Yes...let the jokes about Country music begin.)
The suites are awesome. Comfortable seats, couches, TV to watch anything else that's on besides the game, mini fridge and the wonderful dessert cart. The caramel apple is my favorite dessert here. Strange...I know. There's also a bar for each section of the suites (with very friendly bartenders), and snack bars near by. Food...well, you must remember you're at a sporting event, so it's gonna be expensive. Hot dogs, chicken strips, nachos, you know, the usual...nothing 5 star worthy. (Though the nachos have some really good steak on them!)
The suites allow you to enjoy a game comfortably with your friends. You will not get the high-fiving, yelling and screaming rush-like exciting experience of being down below (or up above). I'm not a huge sports fan, so this is my favorite way to enjoy a game.
Parking...the couple times I didn't have passes to Lot 1...horrible. You have to get there early to pay $20 (or more) to park in one of the many lots across the street. Probably the worst parking situation I've been to out of all the arenas/stadiums/ponds in Southern CA.

UPDATE: 11.30.07
The turkey club at the Buss Stop.......surprisingly yummy! For $9.50. you get a huge sandwich with turkey, bacon, romaine lettuce, cheese, avocado, onion and tomato on a bread so soft, I ate it with my fork. It was almost too soft because it nearly flaked off. The sandwich was so messy, I resorted to the fork. The sandwich is served next to a bed of kettle chips and a PICKLE. You can get this next to the bar on the suite level (not sure if it's served elsewhere). For me, it's a much better alternative than the greasy fried goodness at the concession stand (which are just as pricey).
P.S. The Lakers rock! Anyone want two free tacos from Jack in the Box?

There are so many ways to review Staples Center. I've been here for Laker and Clipper games, but no concerts, Kings or Avengers games. Since it's so hard, I'll start from a public transportation angle. Hopefully it will be useful to some.
So I had to meet up my family at a recent Clippers game. They were coming from the east, I was coming from the west. I sure as hell was not gonna pay $20 for parking by myself, so I went to metro.net and planned my route. $1.25 to get there in under a hour while reading a book and letting someone else fight traffic for you. Great deal. They drop you off one block away from the arena. Dodger Stadium, please take note. But I guess these stars should be saved for MTA and the Big Blue Bus.
Staples Center is your typical Los Angeles sports venue. People show up late because they had to fight traffic and refuse to take public transportation. I've sat in the nosebleeds as well as the box suites. The suites are nice if you want to enjoy your company, be comfortable, and not pay too much attention to the game. I prefer the nosebleeds myself. I think it's hilarious that there are all these Lakers banners in the rafters but not a single thing commemorating Clippers accomplishments. You're telling me they haven't retired ONE jersey number?
Food is okay, I had a chicken sandwich and some kind of supreme nachos -- very good. Their hot dogs are low grade though. Stay away.
